Relative Pronoun

A relative pronoun introduces a clause that explains or describes a previously mentioned noun.

Relative pronouns are used to link two related ideas into a single sentence, thereby avoiding repetition.

examples

• J'ai une poupée. Elle parle. [I have a doll. It speaks.]
  J'ai une poupée qui parle. [I have a doll which speaks.]
• J'ai une poupée. Je peux la mettre dans mon sac.
                        [I have a doll. I can put it in my bag.]
  J'ai une poupée que je peux mettre dans mon sac.
                        [I have a doll which I can put inside my bag.]
• Je mets la poupée au coin de ma chambre. Il y a beaucoup d'autres poupée au coin de ma chambre.
                        [I put the doll in the corner of my room. There are lots of other dolls in the corner of my room.]
  Je mets la poupée au coin de ma chambre où il y a beaucoup d'autres poupée.
                        [I put the doll in the corner of my room where there are lots of other dolls.]
