USAGE

  • Indefinite Articles are a must in French in certain cases where it may be omitted in English. eg
    bullet 85 J'ai acheté des pommes. [I've bought some apples]
  • In some cases, English uses indefinite articles whereas they are omitted in French:
    - In talking about jobs: eg
    bullet 85 Elle est médecin.  [She is a doctor.]
    - In expressions like:
    bullet 85 Quelle dommage! [What a pity!]
  • With adjectives placed before the noun, de is used rather than des:
    bullet 85 Il y a de très beaux monuments en Inde.
        [There are (some) very beautiful monuments in India.]
    bullet 85 Ils ont fait de graves erreurs.
        [They made (some) serious mistakes.]
